SMEs’ competitiveness

The research group intends to investigate the competitive capacity of Italian SMEs, a type of firm that characterize the entrepreneurial structure of the country. SMEs are overall 99% of all enterprises in Italy, contributing to the generation of about 70% of the national value added and absorbing more than 80% of employees in country. In particular, the research team aims:

  • to bring out the critical factors and barriers that SMEs face at different stages of their development;
  • to identify and highlight the factors underlying SMEs’ success and therefore their ability to survive and face different situations arising not only from internal dynamics but also from the environmental context;
  • to understand the entrepreneurial specificities that distinguish those who drive these companies;
  • to examine the relationship between these latter and the organisms that at local or national level can provide them with different types of supports (financial, consulting, research).
