European Central Bank (ECB) and the integration of financial markets

in our opinion, the European Central Bank (ECB) have played the role of "glue" following the 2008 crisis. In fact, starting in October 2008, the Governing Council of the ECB has put in place numerous unconventional measures, such as long-term refinancing operations for euro area commercial banks. Furthermore, since November 2014 the Single Supervisory Mechanism (SSM) has become operational and the ECB is thus responsible for the direct supervision of "relevant banks." As a result of these processes, and thanks to a sustained economic growth, the majority of the euro area countries have restarted to grow, the deficit has been avoided and the new banking regulations have made the system more stable. The research group aims to highlight the relevant role of the ECB in the integration of financial markets in Europe.
