Learning outcomes

The module aims to give students a global perspective on distribution sector, considering in particular its evolutionary path from traditional pre-capitalistic approach to the managerial approach typical of large retailers, to the recent and innovative on-line selling.
The module aims as well to make students aware of economic, managerial and competitive rationales of retail firms, as a peculiar kind of service firm.

Syllabus

The module involves a range of teaching strategies including lectures, case studies and guest lectures. Additional material will be in the form of web-based reading and research, selected texts, journal articles and contemporary magazine and press articles. Independent research and study will be encouraged throughout to complement group work activities.

Assessment methods and criteria

Oral examination to test both basic knowledge and critical analysis skills.
