Learning outcomes

The module Retail Management aims to give students a global perspective on distribution sector, considering in particular its evolutionary path from traditional pre-capitalistic approach to the managerial approach typical of large retailers, to the recent and innovative on-line selling.
The module aims as well to make students aware of economic, managerial and competitive rationales of retail firms, as a peculiar kind of service firm.

The module Tourism Management aims to get a first look at the touristic phenomenon, in the wider perspective of destination rather than in the tighter perspective of organization involved in providing specific tourist services.
To this goal, tourism will be at first considered as a whole. Second, nature and “functioning” of destination as global touristic product will be investigated. In the end, issues dealing with tourism quality will be addressed.

Syllabus

The module involves a range of teaching strategies including lectures, case studies and guest lectures. Additional material will be in the form of web-based reading and research, selected texts, journal articles and contemporary magazine and press articles. Independent research and study will be encouraged throughout to complement group work activities.

Assessment methods and criteria

1 hour written examination made up of open questions to test basic knowledge. If passed, oral examination to test critical analysis skills will take place.
