Riccardo Scarpa, has been an associate professor at Verona lecturing Agricultural Economics and Rural Estate Appraisal since 2014. After is bachelor degree (1988) he completed an MSc at the University College of Wales, Aberystwyth funded by the European Social Fund and in 1990 he began his career as a researcher at the Università della Tuscia di Viterbo in 1990. In 1993 he was awarded a Fulbright scholarship with which he completed an MA in Agricultural Economics at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (USA) in 1995, which was followed by a Ph.D. Forest and Natural Resources Economics in 1999. He was a lecturer at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK (2000-2001); senior lecturer at the University of York, UK (2001-2005) and then endowed chair at Queens University-Belfast, in Northern Ireland (2012-2014). Since 2005 he has regularly lectured post-graduate courses at the Faculty of Management of the University of Waikato in NZ and since 2015 at the University of Durham in UK.
His research focusses on:
- consumer choice analysis and preferences
- economics of the rural environment and ecosystem services
- econometric methods for the analysis of discrete choices
- metodi econometrici di analisi delle scelte discrete
- economic valuation of nonmarket goods
His publications are mostly hosted in international peer-reviewed journals, where he has published over 150 papers which have been cited more than 3000 times in ISI papers.
